Toolkit & Shadowing

Two tabs earn the iOS app its keep. Toolkit hosts the 28 tools and the Lean Six Sigma Calculator scratchpad; Shadowing is the iOS-first surface for capturing observations as you walk the process. Both work offline.

About 4 minutes

At a glance

What you'll use each one for.

Toolkit hub

Browse, open, and start tool runs. Pin completed runs to feature them in the executive summary.

Lean Six Sigma Calculator

Twelve-mode scratchpad — capability, DPMO, PCE, RTY, business days, ARL and more. Pinned at the top of Toolkit; nothing here is saved.

Shadowing

Live capture in the field, then promote findings into VSM, SIPOC, Fishbone, FMEA.

What works on iOS today

  • List every run of every tool in your project — see LIVE state and pinned runs.
  • Create a new run by tapping a tool tile and filling the first form.
  • Delete runs you no longer need.

Web-only during the pilot

  • Editing nested data inside a run — dragging items inside a CTQ Tree, tuning weights inside FMEA.
  • Bulk imports — e.g. attaching an Excel sheet of measurements to a Capability run.

Shadowing

Capture as you walk.

The Shadowing tab is iOS-first. Open it on the shop floor, in a hospital corridor, or at the counter, and start logging timestamped observations as they happen.

What a session captures

  • Steps + durations — every process step with an auto-running timer.
  • Actor — who's performing the step (operator name or role).
  • Value classification — Value-added / Essential non-value-added / Non-value-added.
  • Waits / blocks — interruptions and queue time. Promote into a VSM.
  • VOC quotes — direct customer or operator quotes captured verbatim.
  • Photos + flags — annotated snaps; follow-up flags for deeper investigation.

Live capture

Running session — work timer + end-step button.

Tap + New session on the Shadowing hub and the live-capture sheet opens. The screen shows a running timer, fields for Step name, Actor, and Value classification (3-way picker), a Quick note field for any flag, and three big buttons:

  • End step + start next — closes the current step and starts the timer for the next one.
  • Wait / blocked — pauses the value timer and accumulates wait time separately.
  • End session — closes the session; jumps to the Observations and Promote tabs.

Promote at the end

The Promote tab on the session sheet asks where the findings should go. One tap promotes steps → VSM or Process map, quotes → VOC list, and any flagged photos → FMEA register. No re-keying.

Round trip

From the floor to the report.

  1. Open Shadowing on the line. Capture 30 minutes of observations.
  2. Finish + promote → VSM + 4 VOC entries land on the assignment.
  3. Open Toolkit → Process Map. The promoted steps are pre-populated.
  4. Switch to web at your desk to fine-tune the analysis and pin the run to the report.
  5. Generate the PDF and email it (covered in the last chapter).
